CNPC USA Corporation (CNPC) contacted Brewer Construction Services (Brewer) to complete the second phase of a cutting-edge chemical laboratory, housed in an existing single-story concrete tilt-wall building. The project required an accelerated timeline to ensure CNPC’s relocation from their current facility with minimal disruption to their daily operations.
The comprehensive laboratory design encompassed multiple specialized labs, including fracturing and drilling, synthesis, and analytical, along with supporting facilities like shipping and receiving, quality assurance, and materials and electronics labs.
As the general contractor, Brewer’s design build experts collaborated with CNPC personnel in preconstruction meetings to optimize laboratory design, streamlining workflow, enhancing efficiency, and prioritizing a safe working environment. Brewer also efficiently navigated the permitting process, securing all required permits and documentation from Harris County Building Department.
The laboratory build-out project involved the installation of a new HVAC system, lab gas plumbing, and fire control system. Brewer provided custom laboratory solutions, featuring casework, epoxy countertops, fume hoods, benchtop and custom canopy, multiple types of interior finishes, and specialty flooring. The team refurbished and reinstalled CNPC-owned equipment, such as fume hoods, base cabinets and counter tops, incorporating it into the newly designed laboratory space.
The laboratory completion project was successful, with CNPC experiencing minimal work interruption. Brewer’s meticulous schedule ensured a smooth equipment relocation and integration process. The project’s success has led to a continued partnership, with CNPC retaining Brewer’s services for ongoing work.
